Business verification and WhatsApp badges: what’s the difference?
People often use “verification” and “green tick” to mean the same thing. They’re related, but they’re separate steps, and knowing the difference saves time and money.
Business verification
Meta business verification confirms that your business is real and that you’re connected to it. You submit details and documents through Meta, and Meta checks them. It’s often a step towards higher messaging limits and other features.
Passing it doesn’t give you a badge next to your name on WhatsApp.
A WhatsApp badge
A badge is a visible sign on your WhatsApp profile. It’s a separate request, and it’s generally meant for well-known or notable businesses, or those on Meta’s paid verification plans. Meta has changed the names, colours and rules of its badges over time, so check Meta’s current documentation before you decide what to apply for.
Meta makes the decision. Anyone who promises you a badge, or a fixed approval time, is promising something they don’t control.
How to prepare
- Match your details. Your legal name, address and website should agree across your registration documents, GST details and website.
- Keep a real website. It should clearly show your business name and how to contact you.
- Use an email on your own domain, if you can, rather than a free address.
- Build a public presence. Genuine press coverage and an active business profile can help with a badge request.
If you’re not approved
A rejection isn’t always final. Find out what was missing, fix it and apply again when you’re allowed to. If you’d like help preparing your application, see our verification support service.
